Variety: Fritillaria Meleagris (Snakeshead Lily) |
Flowering height: 15 ins |
Month:
March into April Clare Bulb Co comment: Fritillaria Meleagris are sold as mixed colours, white and mottled purple. Click here for an information sheet on this variety, which you might wish to refer to. Perhaps one of the most charming of all bulbs, once established, they will pop up here, there and everywhere, as they readily self-seed. In the pictures below they are growing in customers' meadows, which is actually their natural habitat, as they are in nature water-meadow bulbs. There are famous water-meadows within the environs of Oxford university, close to the Thames, which are a carpet of Fritillaria Meleagris, (and much photographed). ![]()
